"Carnival" art show submissions- a family affair =-)

Ever since Insane Ink became Inksanity Tattoo Company back in June, alot of things have changed for the better, one of the main reasons being the push for creativity. we had a "skull" themed art show a couple of months back and it pushed everyone involved to make art . Which is one of those things that gets lost in the trappings of everyday life. Art, music, and hobbies in general get neglected in the real world. You kinda have to make them a priority. that, or poke that lazy jerk in your brain until they get up and get to work.

I did a couple of paintings, and a couple paper mache skulls. Truth be told I would have like to at least do one more painting, maybe two, but I just cant come up with the time to do it. I feel like if I would have done a couple more paintings that I would have pushed myself harder. So , Im kinda bummed. I feel like Im going into school with half of my homework done but oh well, theres always next time.

On with the good stuff. I painted a few paper mache skulls for the last show, and I had a couple left , so I did something I used to do a few years back with animal skulls. I bedazzled the shit out of them.

over the top? yes.
Its basically primed skulls, hot glue, some plastic gemstones from a craftstore and some paint. I laquered these guys too, so they are nice and shiny. It made me miss doing animals skulls. Maybe I should talk to Santa about what I want for Xmas this year...I'd really like to do a baboon skull. I have 4 of these at the studio for the show, one in pink, and one in red,

Up next, the Palmistry sign. I've always done occult type stuff (and while I wouldnt necessarily call palmistry an occult practice...well maybe I would... metaphysical sounds a little too...sissified to me) and Ive read a good bit on the subject (check out  Palmistry -The Whole View by Judith Hipskind) and totally believe in it. If you dont, I dont care. I painted this junx. Acrylic on canvas.

modeled after my own freshly shaved palm

And this last one is one of the many reasons I wish they still had carnivals with sideshows and creepy stuff you dont see every day.  For the record: I'd pay money to see in person a fraction of the stuff you can view online. uh.

This painting is a little smaller, these guys are fused at the spine and I wanted to do another with the dudes fused at the skull, because it is probably one of the creepiest things  Ive ever seen, but again, no time.

and for the family affair part. The Husband is submitting some assemblage stuff for the show, which i DIG. Also centered around the sideshow aspect but, awesome nonetheless. I cant really tell you about it like he could but I will try.

The lettering was done by hand, the gypsy lady is a print made from a linocut David made, and I cant even begin to tell you whats in the bottles... All the wood was painted and stained by him, and the man is meticulous when he makes stuff, and it shows. I love this piece. I want to keep it.

Kimmy want.

and a close up of the potions and such:
yes, those are bones.

And this one is a huge hinged box, with some antique toys, another hand made linocut print of a pinhead, framed photos of circus freaks, and hand lettered sign...shits awesome. I dig this one too!

rad.
and a better shot of the toys:
dig.

One of the freaks if Koo-Koo the Bird Girl, Pip & Flip, and cant remember the other names right now. David could tell you allll about them.  I had alot of fun working on my projects, and I know the Husband did too. These pieces will all be for sale at the art show at Inksanity Tattoo Co. October 15th.  It starts at 8pm and Im really looking forward to mingling with everyone and checking out all the artwork. We still have a little room for submissions and its open so if you have something, bring it!

thnaks for reading!
